skeyes supports counter-drone exercises at Antwerp Airport

Steenokkerzeel, 20 May 2025 — This week, skeyes is providing full cooperation for a series of counter-drone exercises being conducted by the Antwerp police in and around Antwerp Airport (Deurne). As the geozone manager responsible for controlled airspace, skeyes is issuing the necessary flight authorisations for these operations.

The exercises are part of a broader integrated training operation in which police forces practise detecting and intercepting unauthorised drones over the airport grounds. One of the tools being used is a ‘dronegun’ – a kinetic interception device that fires a net to safely bring down drones.

In addition to drone-related scenarios, the training also includes simulations of police response to unwanted intrusions by demonstrators. The aim is to create realistic situations in which the operational readiness of the involved services can be tested and improved.

The exercises will take place in the mornings of Tuesday 20, Thursday 22, and Friday 23 May, each lasting approximately thirty minutes.

skeyes has been closely involved in the preparation of these exercises. The organisation ensures that all necessary safety measures are in place and that scheduled air traffic is not disrupted. Air trafic controllers in the control tower at Antwerp Airport grant flight authorisations and monitors safe deconfliction with scheduled commercial flights.
